Gráinne Gillis read Music at University College Cork and graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2002.
Stage roles have included Olga in Three Sisters (Praxis Theatre Laboratory); Widow Quin in Playboy of the Western World; Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest; Pegeen in Many Young Men of Twenty, all for the Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork; Mother Victoria in Eclipsed and the Transvestite in Hot Food for Strangers (Opera), both at the Granary Theatre, Cork; The Hairdresser in Pleibians Rehearse the Uprising at Arcola Theatre; and Ella in Looking at the Sun (Opera), BAC Opera Festival. Upon graduating from the BOVTS, she worked with the Tobacco Factory, Bristol, playing seven different characters in their adaption of Huckleberry Finn; with TNT’s tour of Death of a Salesman, playing Linda Loman; and wrote a radio series on woman composers for RTE. Last year saw her touring the USA with Peter Hall’s production of As You Like It, and she has just worked with Ipswich based Eastern Angles on the Anatomist.
Film and TV work has included Ireland’s top soap, Fair City, and recently working with Ciaràn Hinds on a short film Somewhere Over The Rainbow. She completed a Diploma in Opera Performance at Birkbeck College in June 2006.
