Gregory was the Artistic Director of the Mercury Theatre Colchester from 1998 – 2003 directing What the Butler Saw, Private Lives, The Recruiting Officer, The Crucible and The Duchess of Malfi, and playing leading roles in The White Devil, Three Sisters, The Europeans, Present Laughter, The Dance of Death, Waiting for Godot, The Tempest, The Provoked Wife, Uncle Vanya, Richard III.
Other recent theatre work includes Dancing at Lughnasa(Exeter); director of Hobson’s Choice; Single Spies (York); Better With a Band (Croydon Warehouse); Cheek by Jowl’s Much Ado About Nothing (New York); Artistic Licence(Theatre Royal, Plymouth); After October(Chichester and Greenwich). And Glasgow Citz, Watford, Sheffield, Leicester,
Bristol amongst others, playing everything from Atahualpa in The Royal Hunt of the Sun to Victoria Wood’s Good Fun.
Earlier work includes the all-male As You Like It(National Theatre and USA tour); The Crucible and Coriolanus(Nottingham): The White Devil (Bristol); A Patriot for Me (Chichester and Haymarket); She Stoops to Conquer (National Theatre and tour):Medea(Athens); Measure for Measure(Edinburgh); Anna Karenina(Shared Experience], Macbeth, The Tempest(English Shakespeare Company); Two Gentlemen of Verona (RSC).
London appearances include Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest (Regent’s Park); Dick Deterred; Progress; The Brave (Bush Theatre); Summer with Monikaand Marrakesh (Lyric, Hammersmith). In 1989 Gregory directed his own play Men in Suits at the Boulevard Theatre.
Gregory’s television work includes Hustle; Casualty; Rock Follies; Sounding Brass; Sin With Our Permission; Wood and Walters; A Question of Attribution, Absolute Hell, Broken News, The Eagle Falls.Films include Death Line; Lady Oscar; David, Lion of Judah; The Whistleblower, The Fool,and Casanova - My Life
